B & I, a subcontracting and building services firm based in Fort Myers, earned three Eagle Awards and two Pyramid Awards in the 2017 Excellence in Construction Awards program from the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter, announced Gary Griffin, President of B & I.
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality construction projects. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from along Florida’s east coast, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
One Eagle Award was awarded for the American Express Sunrise Corporate Center which is a modern glass building, on the southeast corner of Northwest 136th Street and Sunrise Boulevard, and is a new regional headquarters for the financial services company that will house about 3,000 employees in customer service, travel-related services, marketing, human resources, legal services and other internal operation job. B&I’s contract included the Mechanical scope, which consisted of new chilled water system with associated ductwork/air distribution for the new office building. B&I self-performed 100% of the mechanical piping, ductwork and equipment installation, while subcontracting out the insulation and controls scopes.
The second Eagle Award recognized B & I for the Gloria Drummond Physical Rehabilitation Institute project, a new addition at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s main campus facilities. B&I’s contract included the Mechanical scope, which consisted of new VAV duct system with associated ductwork/air distribution for the new facility. B&I self-performed 100% of the mechanical piping, ductwork and equipment installation scopes.
The third Eagle Award accepted by B & I was for the Miami Country Day School – Center for the Arts. This cutting edge performing arts center was constructed on an occupied school campus which presented numerous challenges during the construction. B&I’s contract included the Mechanical scope, which consisted of new VAV duct system and new chilled water air handlers with associated ductwork/air distribution for the new facility. B&I self-performed 100% of the mechanical piping, ductwork and equipment installation scopes.
The two Pyramid Awards were given for the Norton Museum of Art – Enabling Phase and the Cleveland Clinic Weston – Histology & ED.
