Patina Collection, a curated furniture, accessories, clothing and design showroom specializing in European farmhouse chic, is expanding and moving to a new location on 5th Avenue North. The store’s grand opening event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16.
A connoisseur of European antiques, owner, Karen Abell, decided to live out her dream and open a boutique showroom, Patina Collection, just 15 months ago to create a timeless collection of pieces designed to inspire customers into transforming their homes into unusual, yet casual, havens of soft washed hues. From artisanal ceramics to unusual chandeliers, artfully mounted natural accents to cultivated heirlooms, such as romantic old world furnishings and accessories (many sourced directly from Belgium, Italy, France and Sweden), Patina Collection believes simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Abell’s vision for Patina Collection came after trips to Europe, visiting the grand flea markets in Paris, the weekend markets in Provence and falling love with the architecture and design from Italy, particularly the Amalfi Coast.
Previously located on Taylor Road, the new store features the same boutique feel and warehouse vibe. “This is a living, breathing space that creates emotion,” says Abell. “It is a rarified space between grounded somewhere between the authentic and the ethereal.”
Much has happened to Patina in 15 months, quickly building a strong network and loyal following. The new store also offers a full service interior design studio, Patina Design. Led by veteran designer Wanda Pfeiffer, a Florida registered interior designer, Patina Designs offers complete interior design services. Patina Designs offers space planning, furnishing and finish selections, window treatments, CAD drawings and project management for residential and commercial projects.
As before, the items in the store are carefully curated to provide customers with one-of-a-kind pieces, antique finds and covetable items, with a focus on objects that are exclusive to the store. To complete its lifestyle concept, Patina Collections is adding a tabletop area featuring both fine and casual china and glassware and, a bedding section that draws from the look and feel throughout the store. Abell and her team at Patina Collections take special care in selecting exclusive and innovative brands in deciding how to stock the store and what experiences those items should evoke.
“Curation is our focus,” adds Abell. “Whether it occurs while searching for new brands to bring to our store or during a design project. We believe in the juxtaposition of antiques alongside our private label and contemporary furnishings. Our aesthetic focuses on subdued palettes, abundant light and natural materials to elevate your quality of life.”
