Sanibel Captiva Community Bank celebrates “Sweet 16” anniversary with new branch expansion

Sanibel Captiva Community Bank celebrates their 16th anniversary doing business in Southwest Florida in 2019, marked by continued expansion and an unwavering commitment to the community.
To commemorate the anniversary, the bank has announced the purchase of a 12,000-square-foot building located at 9311 College Parkway, at the corner of College Parkway and McGregor Boulevard, formerly First American Bank. Construction will be underway soon and the building is expected to open first quarter of 2020. With rapid growth in recent years, the bank has outgrown its existing operations center at 7500 College Parkway. The new location will be home to its operations center and eighth branch in Southwest Florida. The building will also feature two drive-through lanes, drive-up ATM, night drop and safe deposit boxes.
“Lee County is our home. Our long-term goal is to serve all of Southwest Florida,” said Craig Albert, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank president and chief executive officer. “As the largest community bank in Lee County, we were outgrowing our current operations center and selected a new location that would be visible and accessible to our customers and the greater community.
In 2018, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank’s customer base grew to over 9,500. Last year, customers made over 21,000 wire transfers and originated more than $67 million dollars of ACH transactions. Consumer customers deposited more than $9 million dollars from their mobile devices and business customers made over 157,000 deposits using remote deposit capture.
One of the more unique features the bank has become known for are their cookies. Each branch offers freshly baked cookies daily. “Many of our customers still enjoy doing their banking face-to–face, largely in part to our incredible team who make customers feel like family,” said David Hall, executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer. “Our cookies are just another reason our customers love to come into our branches.”
Since chartering on Sanibel in 2003 as a locally owned and operated community bank, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has expanded throughout Lee County – with five locations added in the past three years. Most recently, the bank brought community banking to Gateway with the opening of its branch located at 11691 Gateway Boulevard.
Specializing in residential loans, the bank’s number of home loans has steadily increased since 2011, with a 312 percent increase in loan volume. In 2018, the bank approved nearly 500 home loans with a loan volume of over $142 million.
The bank supports over 100 not-for-profit, educational, cultural and community causes – from Community Housing and Resources on Sanibel to Blessings in a Backpack – through a combination of philanthropic donations, pro bono work and volunteerism. Every member of the bank’s board of directors is involved in civic groups and charitable agencies, and 65 percent of employees are nonprofit volunteers logging in close to 1000 volunteer hours in 2018.
Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is nationally ranked in the top 25 as a best-performing community bank by S&P Global Market Intelligence out of more than 4,500 banks with assets under $1 billion.
