Sunshine Ace Hardware acquired Hammerhead’s Ace Hardware in Largo. The 42,000-square-foot store will mark the eighth location under the banner of the Naples-based, family owned and operated company. The acquisition also extends Sunshine Ace Hardware’s services into Pinellas County.
Hammerhead’s Ace Hardware was opened in 2005 by Bill and Sue Gessert, who previously owned and operated hardware stores in Dunedin and Oldsmar before building the Hammerhead’s business complex on West Bay Drive in Largo.
This included adding a glamorous gift shop within the hardware complex. Unmarked from the outside, this 5,000-square-foot gift shop with wood flooring has everything from quirky wall clocks and baby clothes to high-end serveware sets and crystal lamps. Many women are pleasantly surprised to find it by chance when accompanying their husbands to the hardware store for supplies.
“Hammerhead’s Ace Hardware built a great business, which naturally attracted our attention. Their great product assortments, care for their associates, and focus on customer service aligns perfectly with our values at Sunshine Ace Hardware,” said Michael Wynn, Sunshine Ace Hardware President. “We look forward to continuing to grow our suite of Florida hardware businesses, and join communities where we can establish and nurture strong relationships.”
Sunshine Ace Hardware appointed Hammerhead’s Ace Hardware employee Jeffery Gawel as the store manager, a role previously held by Bill Gessert. Gawel brings more than 28 years of hardware store experience to Sunshine Ace Hardware. Hammerhead’s Ace Hardware employees will continue in their current roles.
