Wright Construction was recently awarded a Lee County contract to build a 2.5-mile, four-lane road extension at the north end of Three Oaks Parkway. The project also will include a new bridge crossing over the Fiddlesticks canal, concrete sidewalks, two bike lanes, street lighting and utility relocations.
The $26.8 million project has started after it was approved by the Lee County Board of Commissioners. The road extension is the first phase of a multi-level project to improve road network connections, as well as provide modal transportation alternatives.
This project, the county says, is the first phase of a larger effort to “improve road network connectivity and relieve traffic congestion to Interstate75, Treeline Avenue/Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, Metro Parkway and Alico Road.
The second phase will extend Three Oaks to Daniels Parkway, which is scheduled to be widened to eight lanes from east of Pinto Lane to the I-75 interchange. Work should start on this phase in 2025 with the project to be completed by 2027.
