Advocate Radiation Oncology opens cancer treatment center
Advocate Radiation Oncology has opened a second cancer treatment center in Manatee County with the addition of a new location in Lakewood Ranch.
The new center, which complements Advocate’s location in Bradenton, will expand Advocate’s ability to deliver powerful cancer treatment conveniently close to patients’ homes under the guidance of compassionate experts.
Dr. My-Lien Truong and Dr. Dwight Fitch are now seeing Advocate patients in Lakewood Ranch.
“We are committed to providing the best care possible to our patients,” said Dr. Arie Dosoretz, CEO of Advocate Radiation Oncology. “We are honored to offer our services to the Manatee County community and remain unwavering in our mission.”
Truong earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, with minors in mathematics and biology, from the University of Oklahoma before completing her medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where she remained for a residency in radiation oncology. Additionally, Truong completed an internship in pediatrics at Washington University in St. Louis.
Fitch earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan and began his career at Dow Chemical and Proctor & Gamble, conducting research in material applications and fluid dynamics. He later changed career paths and completed a medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. Fitch’s residency in radiation oncology was at William Beaumont Hospital in Detroit. Board-certified in radiation oncology, Fitch has treated patients in the Bradenton-Sarasota area for 20 years.
Both physicians are actively involved in cancer research and support numerous cancer-related charitable causes throughout the region.
The Lakewood Ranch center is Advocate’s 16th cancer treatment center in Florida, where patients have access to Varian and Elekta machines that are widely recognized as the most innovative radiotherapy systems available. Advocate also maintains a partnership with Southwest Florida Proton in Estero, the first proton treatment center on Florida’s west coast. Proton therapy is often recommended to treat pediatric and recurrent cancers, as well as cancers of the central nervous system, head and neck, prostate, gastrointestinal and breast.
Advocate’s Lakewood Ranch cancer treatment center is located at 8946 77th Terrace East.
