Bonita Springs gives updates on Hurricane Milton recovery
Hurricane Milton brought damaging storm surge to coastal areas throughout Bonita Springs and tornado and wind damage across the community.
The City continues to ask residents to remain in place and avoid travel as much as possible. There are downed powerlines in the roadway, and some are potentially live. Debris is still being removed from the roadways. Power outages are also impacting traffic signals.
City Staff is out assessing the impact of the storm. The City has a curfew in place for the beach area. The curfew is from 10 pm to 7 am. For more information, visit the cityofbonitasprings.org

Traffic Lights and Safety: Lee County Government is assessing traffic signals throughout Lee County and working to get them up and running. Motorists should approach non-functioning signals with caution

- If a signal is dark: After coming to a complete stop, proceed carefully through the intersection.
- If it’s flashing yellow: Proceed with caution.
- If it’s flashing red: Treat it as a stop sign.
- If law enforcement is on-scene, follow the directions of deputies or officers
Power and Light: Florida Power and Light is working to restore power throughout Lee County. FPL asks that the public stay far away from flooded areas and downed power lines. If you see a downed power line, call FPL at 1-800-468-8243 or 911 if it is an emergency. Please report outages on the FPL Mobile App. Download the FPL app by texting the word “App” to MyFPL (69375).
Imperial River Water Levels: The City of Bonita Springs continues to monitor the Imperial River Water Levels. The Imperial River appears to have crested and the water levels are decreasing as compared to at the height of Hurricane Milton. Bonita Springs residents who live near the Imperial River are encouraged to continue to monitor the water levels. The Imperial River is now at 11.63. To monitor water levels please visit.
Generator Safety: If you are planning on using a generator because you are out of power, please use caution. Safety tips for using a generator:
o Do not use indoors
o Keep at least 20 feet away from windows& door
o Never plug the generator into a wall outlet
o Keep the exhaust pointed away from your home
Operational Hours and Facility Closure: City of Bonita Springs City Hall will remain closed through Friday, October 11th,2024. All Bonita Springs Parks & Recreation facilities are closed today. Essential Staff continue to work throughout post-storm efforts.
Storm Debris: Bonita Springs Staff is beginning to assess debris. The City is ready to mobilize its contracted debris vendor.
Lee County Trash Collections: Lee County has extended the suspension of residential garbage collection through Friday, Oct. 11. Regular service will resume Monday, Oct. 14, following the regular schedule for all accessible routes within the county’s franchise areas. Only put out trash. Recycling and yard waste collections are delayed until October 21st,2024.
LeeTran: As of Oct. 10, starting at 1 PM, LeeTran will only perform life-sustaining trips, county-wide emergency transportation support, and fare-free fixed-route evacuation assistance. LeeTran regular fixed route services remain suspended today and tomorrow as it conducts Emergency Operation Center missions. Regular fixed route service is expected to return no later than Saturday.
Shelters: Lee County is consolidating its shelter operations this afternoon as people return to their homes following a successful evacuation of Zones A and B for Hurricane Milton.

- Dunbar High School
