BSU honored with best tasting drinking water award

Bonita Springs Utilities was named winner of the 2024 Region V Best Tasting Drinking Water Award by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association. FSAWWA’s annual state-wide competition recognizes the vital role of water utilities in daily lives and highlights the exceptional quality of drinking water, which people can often take for granted. Water samples are judged on their taste, color, odor and clarity.

“Our team works hard to ensure we deliver safe and reliable water to our members every day,” said Andy Koebel, BSU executive director. “We’re very pleased to have their hard work recognized by the FSAWWA.”

BSU competed against local water utilities in Naples, Ave Maria, Cape Coral, Seminole Tribe of Florida and Lee County.

BSU’s drinking water production starts with raw water from two sources. The Lower Tamiami Aquifer is a relatively shallow groundwater source that is treated through a lime softening process. The deeper water Upper Florida Aquifer is a source with higher salt content that is treated through a reverse-osmosis process. The water from the two processes is blended for optimum quality and taste.

BSU encourages members to enjoy BSU drinking water because it’s high-quality, refreshing, affordable and environmentally responsible. A gallon of BSU water costs only four cents and is available 24/7 from the tap. BSU water is award-winning and protects the environment by reducing solid waste and energy consumption, as well as the associated pollution created by single use plastic bottles.
