City of Fort Myers Welcomes New Assistant City Manager, John Lege

Fort Myers, FL – The City of Fort Myers welcomes John Lege to serve in the role of Assistant City Manager. Lege will oversee the following departments: Community Development, Information Technology, Public Works, and Parks & Recreation.

Lege is a 21-year Navy veteran who prior to joining our team, was the Finance Director at the City of Delray Beach, as well as the Finance Director and later Assistant City Manager at the City of Sarasota. In this role, he was responsible for the Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Strategic Planning and Community Development departments. After retiring from the Navy, Lege began his career at a CPA firm as an auditor specializing in audits of local governments. He soon transitioned to the City of Ocala as Chief Financial Officer and later as Assistant City Manager.

“John is a strong complement to the talented team we currently have in the city,” said Marty Lawing, City Manager. “I look forward to his keen financially-focused perspective and believe he will play a key role in promoting fiscal integrity across all the departments he oversees.”

Lege received his Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Florida and Master of Business Administration from Webster University. Lege is a Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) and a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) from the Government Finance Officers Association. Lege is the past President of the Southwest Chapter of the Florida Government Finance Officers Association. He is actively involved in the Florida League of Cities where he serves on the Finance and Taxation Legislative Committee.
