Speed Networking comes to Fort Myers, March 13th

The Imperial River Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) hosts Speed Networking at the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport. Network and dine on Wednesday March 13, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM.  Event plus St. Patrick’s Day-themed dinner, $35 on Eventbrite.

Speed networking derives from speed dating, a round-robin style of meeting potential new romantic interests. It was developed by a rabbi in the late 1990s. The goal is to meeting and having brief but meaningful exchanges with as many fellow participants as possible during timed intervals.

Speed networking has been used to expand both social and professional networks.  Both structure and time limits remove the anxiety often experienced when meeting new people. The format mitigates awkwardness associated with starting and ending conversations with strangers.

Normal principles of networking still apply:
– Be genuine and approachable.
– Focus on giving rather than getting.
– Prioritize quality over quantity.
– Approach the event with the goal of creating long-term, mutually beneficial business and social relationships.
