FloridaCommerce awards more than $10 million for Hurricane Ian recovery
FloridaCommerce awarded more than $10 million for long-term Hurricane Ian recovery through the Rebuild Florida Hurricane Ian Hazard Mitigation Grant Match Program (HMGMP). These awards will assist local governments eligible for the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) which requires a 25 percent local match. Three communities will receive funds to help construct, rehabilitate and expand critical infrastructure – supporting recovery efforts in communities impacted by Hurricane Ian.
“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, FloridaCommerce has remained committed to supporting Florida communities as they rebuild and become more resilient to future storms,” said Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “These awards will help Charlotte, Manatee and St Johns Counties build and harden critical infrastructure, creating a more resilient community — benefitting Florida business and families.”
Communities receiving awards include:
- Charlotte County ($8,215,995) – for the construction of a hurricane-safe room and an installation of permanent generators for a critical facility.
- Manatee County ($1,015,520) – to install permanent generators in a critical facility.
- St. Johns County School District ($1,029,433) – to install permanent generators in a critical facility.
This funding builds upon more than $15.1 million awarded through 35 projects for Hurricane Ian long-term recovery. The funds are allocated to the state through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Program.
