Charlotte/Sarasota County, Fla., Dec. 29, 2020 – Start the new year off right by registering for the complimentary Trust and Investment Management seminars hosted by Charlotte State Bank & Trust Vice President Christine Hause and Portfolio Manager Gregory Thomas. The free educational sessions are being held as live seminars and online webinars.

“Our presentations, covering a wide range of important topics from a trust officer’s point of view, are designed to help individuals achieve their financial goals for themselves and their heirs,” said Hause.

Attendees may participate in person at the bank’s Murdock branch office, 1100 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, or online via the Charlotte State Bank & Trust website (www.charlottestatebank.com). In-person capacity is limited to allow for social distancing. Masks are mandatory. Advance registration is required for the seminars or webinars, which last from 10-11:30 a.m. Following are the January sessions:

Tuesday, Jan. 5 – Avoiding Estate-Planning Mistakes, with Celebrity Examples: This seminar will explore the estate-planning mistakes made by a variety of celebrities whom we can learn from and apply to our personal plans. James Gandolfini, Aretha Franklin, and Robin Williams are a few of the estates explored.

Wednesday, Jan. 6 – Stocks, Bonds, and Exchange Traded Funds: Learn the best mix of assets to achieve your goals. The focus will be on low-cost ways to build an efficient portfolio to grow wealth with market-like returns. The prudent investment rule is discussed for tips you can apply to your portfolio.

Thursday, Jan. 7 – Estate Planning for Women: Education and empowerment of women allows them to make the best estate- and investment-planning decisions. The focus will be on the benefits of good planning, best practices, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Tuesday, Jan. 12 – Family Administering Your Estate Plan: This common practice of naming family or friends can cause family strife, long probates, extra expenses, and problematic estate administration during life and upon death. Tips will be shared to help you make a solid plan.

Wednesday, Jan. 13 – Annuities, REITs, and UITs – Problematic? Learn the truth about these instruments and why they can cost you money from expenses, lack of liquidity, and poor performance. It is very important to know the pros and cons of each of these so you can make the best decisions.

Thursday, Jan. 14 – Estate-Planning Basics: Review the basic elements of an estate plan: last will and testament, power of attorney, and healthcare directives; the benefits of each and the pitfalls to avoid. Review the role of the agent, including ways to protect yourself and your assets.
