Hurricane Ian: LBIA reminds residents to be aware of unlicensed contractors

Fort Myers, FL – The Lee County Building Industry Association wants to remind residents to be aware of unlicensed contractors who will prey on those desperate to have damage repaired as the result of Hurricane Ian.

Unlicensed contractors flock into our communities after major disasters, seeking quick payouts for work that may or may not be completed. Using an unlicensed contractor not only puts you at risk in claiming damage through your insurance company but also for getting work permitted and inspected. Always make sure to ask to see a contractor’s Florida license before moving forward with any work that needs to be done. To verify a license, go to myfloridalicense.com.

The LBIA is available to assist its members and residents on finding the appropriate licensed contractor for the scope of work which needs to be completed. People can go to members.bia.net to find a directory of licensed contractors.

“We are here as a building industry to help the community rebuild and get back in their homes,” said Phillip Ford, Executive Vice-President of the LBIA. “We are here to support you and make sure you use the right licensed people.”
