Lee Commissioners approve funds for non-profit rental units through Hurricane Housing Recovery Program

Fort Myers, FL, – The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved nearly $6.7million in Hurricane Housing Recovery Program grant funds for rehabilitation of nonprofit-owned rental units and construction of new rental property.

The funds will be used to assist 173 rental households affected by Hurricane Ian. The program places a priority on serving very low, low and special needs households.

The program is solely funded by the state, administered in accordance with the State Housing Initiatives Partnership program.

The board approved agreements with Goodwill Industries of SWFL, Community Housing Resource Center, Lee County Housing Authority, and Lee County Housing Development Corp.

These funds are in addition to more than $8.2 million in HHRP funding the board awarded in June to assist 133 homeowners affected by Hurricane Ian with down payment assistance, owner occupied rehabilitation, and demolition/reconstruction.
