Lee County encourages qualifying small businesses to act now to get PPE supplies; distribution site to close at end of week

Fort Myers, FL, June 1, 2020 – Lee County Government will close its Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) distribution site for small businesses at the end of this week and is encouraging qualifying businesses to apply now.

Supplies for businesses that employ one to 25 employees will continue to be available all week. Business owners apply online at www.LeeFLcares.com; those who qualify are assigned a weekday time slot during which they pick up supplies at the temporary PPE distribution site at Lee County Elections Center, 13180 S. Tamiami Trail, Fort Myers.

The site, which opened last week, was designed as a short-term operation to help businesses reopen. It will close at the end of the business day Friday, June 5.

Overview

Lee County Government is investing $57.5 million in Human & Business Services to provide immediate assistance for individuals, families and businesses. Funds are available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act federal stimulus package.

Lee County has identified $3 million in emergency support that is available to qualified businesses through the Lee CARES PPE for Small Businesses Program, which is intended to help companies directly affected by Governor DeSantis’ Safer at Home Act re-open as safely as possible and follow CDC guidelines

The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Small Businesses program supports companies in Lee County that employ one to 25 employees in specific industry segments that are heavily involved with public interaction. Only the following business segments are eligible to receive PPE supplies:

  • Medical and dental practices with less than 25 employees
  • Childcare services and youth camps
  • Museums and historical sites
  • Amusement and recreation centers
  • Independent restaurants with fewer than 25 employees
  • Barber shops, beauty salons, nail salons and personal care services

Each kit will contain a predetermined quantity of masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and other materials (while supplies last). 

Applications will be accepted until supplies are exhausted.

Approved applicants will be emailed a confirmation receipt and directions for pick up.
