Hampton Scott Tonk, a resident of North Fort Myers, is a listee in the 2020 edition of Who’s Who in America, a publication of Marquis Who’s Who. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered in the selection process.
After graduating from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a minor in philosophy and religion, Tonk served in the U.S. Army in Germany, because he also speaks German. He then earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological School in 1972, subsequently serving in the Episcopal ministry between 1972 and 1984. In 1980 he embarked upon a successful sales career, discovering that he had more of an aptitude for business than for ministry.
In 1992, Tonk was promoted to his first management position. He then joined a company whose owner was looking for a successor, and he was moved up the ranks to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Taking what he learned from his business experiences as well as from memberships in professional societies such as the American Society for Quality, the Turnaround Management Association, the American Society for Training and Development and many others, he then opened several companies of his own. Today, as President of his own firm, Tonk serves as a management consultant and success coach, offering practical assistance to established for-profit and nonprofit organizations to help them become organizational powerhouses.
In 2002, Tonk became a Certified Quality Improvement Associate through the American Society for Quality.
A steadfast servant of the Lord, Tonk started Share the Word Ministries in 2007. His first book, God’s Opportunity: How God Is Reuniting His Church and Evangelizing the World and second book, YES, Lord! A Conversion Story, will both publish in October 2020. He is currently working on his third and fourth books.
