Naples Cancer Advisors adds specialist in hematological malignancies and cellular therapy

Naples Cancer Advisors, a community-based, non-profit organization that provides free consultative oncology services to local cancer patients and their families, announced that Dr. James H. Essell has joined the practice. With more than 30 years of medical experience, Dr. Essell is a distinguished medical oncologist, hematologist, and blood and marrow transplant specialist.

Dr. Essell earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and doctorate in medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He then completed post fellowship training in Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Fred Hutchinson Transplant Center in Seattle, Washington.

After completing his military service, Dr. Essell returned to Cincinnati and worked at Oncology Hematology Care (OHC) where his rolls included President of the Medical Staff at Jewish Hospital, Medical Director of the Blood Cancer Center at Jewish Hospital, and Chair of Cellular Therapy for the U.S. Oncology Network and SCRI. Dr. Essell previously worked in clinical research while at OHC and published dozens of papers in peer reviewed journals and presented at national meetings. During his career, his team in San Antonio and Cincinnati has performed more than 3,000 stem cell procedures.
