Retail Operations Veteran Joins The Bike Bistro

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Jan. 19, 2021) — Katie Settle has joined The Bike Bistro, a specialty bike shop and coffee bar on Summerlin Road near the Sanibel Causeway.

An expert in retail operations, Settle previously worked in merchandising operations for Ralph Lauren. While at the apparel giant, she oversaw operation systems that kept track of inventory for stores nationwide.

“We’re thrilled Katie is joining our team because her experience in retail operations will ensure that our shop runs efficiently,” says Steve Martin, owner of The Bike Bistro. “She’s already made her mark by creating a process to track all our bike repairs with a color-coded marker, making our service and repairs run more smoothly.”

The Bike Bistro is a popular destination for cycling enthusiasts who enjoy relaxing with a cup of coffee and healthy snacks before or after they ride. Riders can lounge in comfortable chairs, socialize with other cyclists and log onto the internet using the shop’s free WiFi. The shop has been renting and selling custom-fitted bikes, gear and apparel since 2012.

Raised in Ireland and accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy, the hard-charging Settle left the corporate retail world and most recently worked for a condo-maintenance company on Sanibel, riding her bike to work every day from her home in Fort Myers. Two flat tires one day led her to The Bike Bistro and her new job.

Settle, 30, has always loved biking from an early age when she’d ride for hours after school, but she never considered working in the field. “It never occurred to me that working with bikes was something I could do and should do,” she says, delighted with the opportunity to pursue her passion professionally.

Settle enjoys solo rides on any kind of bike, from a beach cruiser to a mountain or road bike. One of her ambitions is to join an organized ride across Florida in one day, a distance of 170 miles. “My bike is what my heart beats for,” she says.
