Southwest Florida labor force up in April 2024

FloridaCommerce announced that the Southwest Florida labor force increased by 4,339 over the year in April 2024. The Fort Myers area labor force grew by 2,372 over the year in April 2024, a 0.6 percent increase, and the Naples area labor force increased by 1,967 over the year, a 1.0 percent increase. The Naples area had a 2.9 percent unemployment rate in April 2024, a 0.7 percentage point increase over the year. Fort Myers area unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in April 2024, up 0.7 percentage point over the year.

Additionally, the Fort Myers area’s private sector employment grew by 3,000 jobs (+1.2 percent) over the year in April 2024. The Fort Myers area industries gaining the most jobs over the year were construction, increasing by 2,000 jobs; government, increasing by 1,600 jobs; and trade, transportation, and utilities, increasing by 1,500 jobs.

The Naples area industry gaining the most jobs over the year was leisure and hospitality, increasing by 1,200 jobs. The Naples area private sector employment increased by 3,200 jobs (+2.0 percent) over the year in April 2024.
