Southwest Florida League of Cities Elects New Officers

The Southwest Florida League of Cities (SWFLC) is a non-partisan, membership organization made up of elected officials from every city in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Lee Counties. The mission of SWFLC is to defend Municipal Home Rule as granted in Florida Statutes, Chapter 166. 001 and to bring closer together the cities situated in our region and the State of Florida. SWFLC has 12 member cities in our 4-county region: Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Clewiston, Estero, Everglades City, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, LaBelle, Marco Island, Naples, Punta Gorda and Sanibel.

SWFLC strives to study the challenges facing municipalities, to work for the general improvement of local government and create a platform to exchange of ideas and experiences with best practices in local administration. Our League works for the welfare of all of citizens within Southwest Florida and also fosters municipal education and a greater civic consciousness.

SWFLC is proud to announce the installation of new officers: President Councilman Fred Forbes of Bonita Springs, Vice President Commissioner Julie Wilkins of LaBelle, Treasurer Mayor Holly Smith of Sanibel, Secretary Councilwoman Joanne Ribble of Estero and Past President Councilwoman Teresa Watkins Brown of Fort Myers. Our new leadership team is already hard at work promoting Florida League of Cities “Building Stronger Cities: Organizing, Empowering, Delivering,”. This statewide initiative focuses on citizen education and engagement in support of Home Rule in Florida. President Forbes said “Our Executive Officer Team is fully committed to getting the message out to our stakeholders-the residents of our Cities-so they can give input to their elected officials in Tallahassee on proposed legislation which directly affects them. We believe this new approach by the FL League of Cities and our Southwest Florida League will result on better legislation which protects the rights of our residents and their quality of life”.
