STARability Foundation presents STAR Award to Outback Steakhouse

STARability Foundation presented a STAR Award to its dedicated vocational partner, Outback Steakhouse. The award was presented to Manager Steven Dunahoo on behalf of STARability’s Trailblazer Academy program.

The award recognizes local businesses that employ STARability participants, including those enrolled in the Trailblazer Academy, a community-based program focused on providing vocational training, life skill development and recreational experiences for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“I enjoy every day the STARs come in; I do this on my time off; I come in early to set up for them and I try to spend as much as I can with them because they are amazing people,” said Dunahoo. “I feel very fortunate that we are able to do this for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. I would absolutely recommend that other businesses and organizations partner with STARability.”

Outback Steakhouse has been partnering with STARability as a vocational training site since 2021, providing STARability participants an opportunity to learn job skills through completing a variety of tasks. STARs assist with polishing and rolling silverware, cleaning menus, preparing dishes and setting tables.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued support from Outback Steakhouse to enrich the lives of our STARs,” said Karen Govern, CEO of STARability Foundation. “These vocational experiences are powerful and truly life-changing, giving our participants the skills, knowledge and tools to succeed and lead meaningful lives.”
Outback Steakhouse is an Australian-inspired steakhouse focused on serving the freshest, highest quality food and bold flavors with a dash of Aussie hospitality.
