Stevens Construction begins Shalimar Beach Resort

Stevens Construction has started construction of Shalimar Beach Resort located at 2823 W. Gulf Drive on Sanibel Island, announced Dan Adams, executive vice president/partner, Stevens Construction, Inc.

Kicking off construction with a groundbreaking ceremony on March 28, Shalimar Beach Resort, the first ground-up resort to begin construction after Hurricane Ian, will be a 52,207-square-foot resort with multiple buildings offering several accommodation options for resort guests. Established in 1959, Shalimar will include a 27,334-square-foot, two-story building with 21 hotel rooms, situated over parking. The resort will also include a 6,032-square-foot, two-story fourplex building with two, one-bedroom and two, two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottages over covered parking. Stevens Construction is also building four duplex buildings with one-bedroom cottages situated over covered parking and an office manager’s suite over parking that is adjacent to the office and resort lobby. All 33 units include fully equipped kitchens, tile flooring throughout and screened balcony with Gulf views. Slated for completion in fall 2025, Shalimar Beach Resort will also feature a pool, rooftop terrace, laundry facilities and a boardwalk to the Gulf of Mexico.

Forced to rebuild after Ian washed away their previous resort, Sean Niesel, Shalimar owner, reached out to Stevens Construction after its new beach resort was already designed, however, it was over their budget. Stevens Construction spent six months working with the client and the architect to identify ways to save money within the existing design and found $1.4 million in cost-savings in the plans and the project is now moving forward within the client’s budget.

The newly designed Shalimar Beach Resort features an enhanced structural design that provides additional resistance to inclement weather as all buildings are six feet above base flood elevation ensuring building resilience.

The Stevens Construction team includes Director of Preconstruction Nick Burkel, Estimating Engineer Evan Lopes, Project Manager Mike Brooks, Superintendent Tom Porter and Project Administrator Kelsey Pojofsky. Architecture Joyce Owens is the architect of record.
