Storm Smart donated $100,000 to Harry Chapin Food Bank from June sales campaign

Fort Myers, FL. (July 28, 2020) —Storm Smart donated $100,000 to the Harry Chapin Food Bank after success with their June sales campaign. A check was presented live on the 6 o’clock news by Executive Chairman Brian Rist at the WINK news station on July 13th .

Through the month of June 2020, Storm Smart announced that for every qualifying purchase of $2,500 or more, they committed to donate $100 to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Storm Smart saw increased community support with this effort and thus had the opportunity to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

“In the wake of the Coronavirus, many within our community are utilizing services such as local food banks due to unemployment and loss of income. We see that as an opportunity to continue offering additional resources to keep organizations such as the Harry Chapin Food Bank running so that our community doesn’t go without,” stated Rist.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank has seen a 137% increase in demand for food supply within the five counties it covers. This week alone, they have distributed almost 100,000 pounds of food which equates to over 800,000 meals served in one week.

“We are overjoyed by the generous support of Storm Smart. The COVID-19 epidemic has greatly affected many in our region who have lost income or employment. Our work has more than doubled recently. Storm Smart’s support is a critical resource to allow us to continue feeding our neighbors in need,” said Richard LeBer, Harry Chapin Food Bank President & CEO.

Harry Chapin Food Bank offers drive-through distributions in order to align with CDC health guidelines and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 during this time. These distribution sites are run by community volunteers of which they are looking for many more. If you are well, able, and willing to volunteer, please visit https://harrychapinfoodbank.org/take-action/give-time/volunteer/.
