The Battle to Save Florida Jobs Heats Up

This week, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association continued our fight for Florida’s hospitality industry – for our businesses and our team members. As we lobby for relief at the federal level, we are also battling Ballot Amendment 2, a constitutional amendment on the Florida ballot right now to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour. This would devastate businesses and Florida families as there would be no way to absorb the more than 75% increase in labor costs without automating and eliminating jobs, cutting hours and benefits, and raising prices. It is bad for our people and bad for business.

Today, JT Corrales, FRLA member and Director of Business Development for Crabby Bill’s Family Brands, participated in a virtual debate on Amendment 2 against millionaire trial attorney and Amendment 2 backer/funder John Morgan. If you missed it, you can watch it here. In the debate, John Morgan says people won’t mind paying more when prices go up, he doesn’t understand the basic economics of why workers will lose their jobs, and he insults entry level restaurant employees. A press release on the debate may be found here, which includes a comparison of statements from JT and John.

Amendment2HurtsYou.com and the FRLA Minimum Wage web page are both excellent resources for you and your teams to learn about the true impacts of Ballot Amendment 2. FRLA also stands ready to answer any questions on the issue, and we strongly urge you to save Florida jobs and vote no on Ballot Amendment 2.
