The top 5 reasons why you might not be initially approved for disaster assistance are:

  1. FEMA is unable to verify you owned the damaged dwelling at the time of the disaster.
  2. You have insurance coverage for the loss.
  3. Your home is still safe to live in despite the damage.
  4. FEMA is unable to verify you occupied the dwelling at the time of the disaster.
  5. Inspectors have been unable to reach you to schedule a home inspection.
