Cybersecurity has become a household word. Small and midsize business owners and managers are realizing the threat, and are taking steps, often with their technology support vendor. But is adding point products (e.g. anti-viruses, firewalls) enough?

The Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) are co-sponsoring a three-part Cybersecurity Series that will provide Small & Mid-Size Business (SMB) owners and managers an understanding of cybersecurity that goes beyond discussing specific tools.

Workshop 1: A Cybersecurity Framework. What is a Cybersecurity Framework? Why is using a Cybersecurity Framework important? Which one is most applicable for SMBs? A deeper dive into the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework.

Workshop 2: A deeper dive into each Five Functions of the NIST Framework – Identify, Protect, Defend, Respond, Recover. How to implement strategies based on this Framework.

Workshop 3: We review real-life scenarios on preventing and recovering from cybersecurity attacks based on what we learned in the first two workshops and provide important last-minute insights and tips.

This series will be geared to non-technical professionals but will be valuable to I.T. generalists in these businesses who want to become more versed in cybersecurity.
