We Need Your Help for COVID Relief to our Travel Businesses

By Jack Wert, Executive Director, Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB, Email

Your CVB team here in Collier County in conjunction with U.S. Travel and the COVID RELIEF NOW Coalition continue to put as much pressure as possible on Congress and the administration to reach a deal to provide COVID relief immediately. Negotiations continued over this past weekend and are ongoing. There is a very small chance that both parties can come together to agree to at least make the $130 billion left in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) available for small businesses who desperately need the federal aid. As we are less than three weeks from the 2020 election, the timing could not be more critical. However, it is essential that members of Congress hear from all of YOU! We must be as loud as possible right now in our demands of Congress, to not leave those in the travel industry who have real and significant financial needs behind.

Longwoods/Miles Partnership Travel Sentiment Study Wave 22 Key Findings

1) Holiday Travel for 2020 sentiment shows that about half of American Travelers (48%) indicate that they will stay home this Holiday Season! It’s clear that a significant rise in new cases of COVID-19 in the majority of states, as well as requests from government and health officials around the country to limit the size of Holiday Season gatherings are having an early impact on initial holiday Travel Sentiment.

2) Looking at American travelers, 41% plan a holiday road trip, while only 19% intend to fly.

3) Concerns that economic factors will greatly impact American’s decision to travel remain consistently low at around 20% as we move towards the Holiday Season.

4) About half of our respondents (49%) still say they feel safe dining and shopping locally (a key factor in restoring consumer confidence to travel).
